Forced wipe incoming!

11:50am EST - It's a new month and with it comes a forced wipe along with a bunch of visual improvements to the Rust landscape.

Learnable recoil for LR300 and MP5

Helk is testing out learnable recoil patterns for the LR300 and MP5. In conjunction with this change, he's reduced the aimcone on both weapons by 90%!


Procgen improvements

The latest version of procedural map generation goes live with the update today. This iteration includes tweaks to biome and mountain spawns, visual improvements to the various rock formations around the map, and the return of icebergs! Foliage is also getting a bit of a trim as the longer grass added several weeks ago has been shortened slightly.

New nodes

You'll notice some differences when gathering after the update, as the model of each type of node has changed.

Ore minigame tweaks

Helk has improved on the or gathering minigame added last week. Along with tweaking some of the visuals, he is improved the hotspot placement on nodes. He has also tweaked some of the yields for lesser tools as they were too high.


Task list

You now have a list of what to do when you join a server. This is aimed at helping new players know how to start the game. Note: This only appears on official servers.


Resource location changes for quarries

Helk has just shifted where resources are found across the map when using quarries. He's also increased the stone yield of static quarries by 4 times.

  • HQM is only found in the arctic
  • Sulfur is only found in arid
  • Metal is only found in temperate

Note: This does not shift the spawning of nodes, only resources gathered from quarries.


Survey charge minigame

Helk is working on another type of minigame for survey charges. This work is still on a separate branch, so it’s not yet clear how exactly it’ll function or if it will make it in the game today. We’ll keep you posted as the update gets closer.


Launch site improvements

The newest dungeon now has more fidelity as a bunch of various new textures and models have been added.

Achievements

The base of an achievements system has been put in place by Garry. There are only a couple achievements at the moment and they can only be gotten on official servers, but I’d expect some more additions to this in the coming weeks.


AI branch

Work continues on the AI branch which will introduce a new PvE element: scientist NPC’s. A lot of great progress has been made, but it doesn't look like we'll be seeing shooting scientists in game just yet.


Other stuff

  • Steam auth timeout issues should be resolved on high pop servers! (nevermind, it's still fucked...)
  • Made player always have his gun at the ready pose when crouched / crouch walking
  • Windows 32-bit is no longer supported
