Fixes and Hackweek
12:00am EST - It’s been one week since the November update and the team is working on the Naval Update scheduled for December, fixes, a fresh hackweek, and more!
Hackweek
A hackweek is a focused period of time—usually a few days to a week or more—where developers step away from their regular work to experiment, prototype, or build creative projects of their own choosing. It’s often used to explore new ideas, test out potential features, or improve tools and workflows, all without the usual roadmap constraints. Here is a summary of the hackweek projects we’re seeing this time around:
Mannequin animation - power mannequins to change their pose
Tech Tree V2 - A rework of how the techtree works from the looks of it
Slickball Arcade - New arcade machine in the works
Super Savas - A new gamemode with 2 teams on start
Console UI improvements - including favorite items / tab
Ballpit - A simple ballpit in the works
Server mesh culling - Optimizations for the server end
FPV drone - A new drone in the works
Naval Progress
Work on the upcoming Naval Update, slated for December, is still full steam ahead. This week’s commits show steady progress across multiple fronts. Naval missions continue to take shape, and players can look forward to adding neon signs to their custom-built boats for that extra bit of flair. Boat construction mechanics are being fleshed out further, and it looks like wiring support is also in the works—opening the door for powered components onboard. On the worldbuilding side, ambient sounds have been added to barges, helping bring these floating structures to life. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer to December on all the details of this exciting update.
Fixes
There are a number of miscellaneous fixes in the works:
Stop a null drop NRE bricking the whole Bootstrap sequence
Fixed unpowered fridges in arctic biome not cooling food
Tweaks to puzzle reset logic
Server occlusion height fixes
Fixed an exception when toggling occlusion culling in the experimental settings menu while in-game
Fixed HBHF sensor being deployable through constructions
Fixed storage adaptors losing half of their passthrough power when using the industrial output slot
Fix for the back button on store page
Some fixes for checkout
Fix for elevator power draw issues
Other Stuff
Work on the upcoming artist pack DLC which include a Paintball Gun!
Xmas content in the works (Ice Sculptures, etc.)
Improvements to the network profiler
Work on the Rust birthday event next month (balloon popping, birthday cake, etc.)
Work to update Unity
Space Station building skin in the works
Improvements to the fillwater command
Added HMLMG to the skin viewer
Added `applygenes` admin command - applies a given gene sequence to the clone/seed in your hands
Player rig updates
A bit of work on the Rivals event
Some texture updates and refreshes for a couple items
