Soft Refresh Update

April 03, 2025 by Bugs in Updates

2:00pm EST - The update is live and devblog hit!

12:00am EST - Expect a light content update featuring changes to softcore gameplay mode along with bug fixes, quality of life, and keep an eye out for a preview of the Jungle Update in the devblog!

The update is expected to go live at the normal time (2pm EST / 7pm GMT) and as always, will force a map wipe across the board. Our update stream goes live at 1pm EST. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.

Softcore Mode Updates

There have been some tweaks and changes to the Softcore game mode. Take note: these changes ONLY impact servers running softcore mode, other servers will not be affected. Here is a summary:

Deployables Adjustment: When destroyed, deployables will drop half their contents and leave a "corpse" that can be repaired to access the remaining half. Any locks on the deployables will be retained after repair. These corpses can also be picked up and repaired at a repair bench, but locks won’t be retained.

Tool Cupboards & Locks: Destroyed tool cupboards leave a temporary block and a corpse, which can be repaired by an authorized player.

Reclaimed Items: Reclaim terminals are removed. Upon respawning, players automatically retrieve half of their belt, inventory and backpack, with the rest (including clothes) found on their corpse. However, dying in a building privileged area or via F1 kill results in losing everything.

Other balance changes:

  • Bullet damage is reduced by 25%.

  • The maximum team size, including authorization on TCs and turrets, is capped at four.

  • Door upkeep is now calculated separately.

  • Tea / food effects are kept after death.

Visualization Ranges

Today's update brings an exciting new feature to Rust - visualization ranges for various devices. Players can now access visualization ranges for Turrets, Shotgun Traps, Flame Turrets, Electric Heaters, HBHF Sensors, Seismic Sensors, Tesla Coils, Sprinklers, and Igniters.

This enhancement greatly simplifies the setup process by clearly displaying the effective range of these items during placement. Whether you're reinforcing your base or crafting intricate systems, you'll be able to precisely determine the reach of your devices, ensuring optimal placement.

For players who prefer not to use this, there is also a new option in the menu to toggle the visualization feature on or off. This added flexibility allows you to tailor your gameplay experience to better suit your style, making base management more intuitive and effective than ever in Rust.

Bee Balance

The development team has rolled out several balance adjustments and fixes to the beekeeping mechanics in Rust, improving the overall functionality and management of bee-related activities.

Key Updates Include:

Bee Swarm Damage: The damage caused by both multiple and single bee swarms has been rebalanced to ensure fair gameplay and interaction dynamics.

Bee Damage Immunity to Bleeding: Bee damage, regardless of its type, will no longer cause bleeding effects on players, which aligns more with realistic bee interactions.

Enhanced Temperature Visibility: The update now clearly exposes temperature readings, making it easier for players to manage and understand environmental effects on their beehives.

Beekeeping in Cold Climates: It’s now feasible to run a beehive in snowy conditions with the aid of sufficient heaters, expanding the possibilities for beekeeping across different biomes.

Beehive Status Panel: A new status panel has been added to beehives, allowing players to easily check whether their beehives are actively producing honeycomb or if there are issues that need addressing.

Inventory Management Improvements: Enhanced inventory check methods have been implemented to more accurately handle partial stacks and improve the timing of inventory checks, addressing previously noted inconsistencies.

These updates aim to refine the beekeeping experience, making it more intuitive and enjoyable for players as they manage their hives and harvest honeycomb.
