It's spooky time!
12:00am EST - The Rust Halloween event starts today, October 23rd, with a mandatory patch at expected at 2pm EST (7pm BST).
Halloween event overview
Rust’s 2025 Halloween Event is back, and it's packed with all the spooky goodness you know and love. There’s seasonal items, loot drops, creepy events, Frankenstein’s pets, and yep, those wild portals are making a comeback! The event kicks off with a mandatory patch on Thursday, October 23rd at 2pm EST and will haunt the servers until the next forced wipe on November 6th.
Portals
Portals have returned, appearing randomly across the map for a limited time before collapsing. Step through one to enter a small underground dungeon — a tight cave-like area filled with loot and hostile scarecrow NPCs. Clear out the enemies, grab what you can, and then jump back through the portal to return to your original location.
Here are some examples of we found in dungeons:
5 NPC Scarecrows - 1 Normal Crate and 1 Military Crate
3 NPC Scarecrows - 2 Military Crates
4 NPC Scarecrows - 1 Normal Crate and 1 Military Crate
5 NPC Scarecrows - 3 Normal Crates
2 NPC Scarecrows - 1 Normal Crate and 3 Military Crates
Frankenstein pets
Frankenstein pets also make a comeback for the duration of the event.
Overview
Frankenstein pets are back, and you can build your own by combining three parts at a Frankenstein table. Parts drop from Mummy and Scarecrow NPCs found around the map, with three pet types available — light, medium, and heavy. Once you’ve got a full set, assemble them on the table to bring your creation to life, then command your new monster companion to follow, guard, or attack as you see fit.
Frankenstein table
The Frankenstein table is a default blueprint, so no need to go hunting for it. It’s a must-have for putting your creepy little pet together. It only costs 200 metal frags, so it’s a breeze to craft. Once you’ve made it, just plop it down in your base, toss in the Frankenstein parts you’ve collected, then hold ‘E’ on the table and hit ‘Wake Frankenstein’ to bring your monster to life. Simple as that!

Types of Frankenstein
There are 3 types of Frankenstein pets: light, medium, and heavy, and each comes with its own perks. The light Frankenstein is quick but doesn’t have a ton of health, while the heavy is a tank with more health but moves like a slug. Medium sits somewhere in between.
You’ve got 3 parts for each type, but here’s the fun part: they’re all interchangeable! So, you can mix and match to create your own weird combo—maybe light legs for speed, a medium torso for balance, and a heavy head for durability.
Controlling your pet
A new radial menu has been added for when you hold ‘p’ while looking at a pet (p for pet, get it?). This menu allows you to select what you’d like your pet to do. Here is a summary of each command:
Idle
Pet does nothing
Follow
Pet will follow you around
Guard
Pet will attack anything that attacks you
Assist
Pet will attack anything you attack
Move
Pet will move to where you are looking
Destroy
Pet is instantly killed
Combat

Other things of note
Frankenstein parts are found on mummies / scarecrows around the map
You can only have one pet at a time
Pets will only travel a max of 100m
The Frankenstein table doesn't require power
You can see your pets health on bottom right

Carvable pumpkins
Also making a comeback previous years Halloween event, carvable pumpkins available. They are pretty straightforward - simply paint on them like a sign, add some wood, and light them up!
Like previous years, they will likely be found on the item store.
Spooky Scarecrows and Mummies
The spooky Scarecrows and Mummies are back to haunt your nightmares! Just like in past Halloweens, these bloodthirsty NPCs are roaming the map, hunting for unsuspecting Newmans. If they spot you, they’ll come charging with a Chainsaw or Sickle, ready to chop you up. So, keep your eyes peeled and stay on your toes—they’ll make quick work of you if you’re not careful!

Trick or Treat event
Similar to the Egg hunt from the Easter event, Trick or Treating is back! About once every other in game day you’ll see a countdown and notice pops up saying “Trick or Treat Starts in: 14 seconds”.
Once the event kicks off, Halloween Candy will start spawning around every player. You’ve got 3 minutes to scoop up as much as you can, so get moving!
Now, what do you do with all that candy? Well, like any proper trick-or-treater, you can just stuff it down your throat till you can't take another bite. But if you're feeling fancy, you can also upgrade it to higher tiers of candy (and loot). Check out the details below for what each tier offers!
