2:40pm EST- It’s a fresh week for Rust development and we’re seeing fixes, improvements, and some fresh ban waves.
Given the game is out of early access, there isn’t an update scheduled till March 1st. There was, however, a small client update earlier today…
When looking at your Steam library this morning, you may have noticed an update queued for Rust. This was a small client hotfix put out to fix a rare error that could show up as OnViewModeChanged or OnInventoryChanged. No server updates are required.
Anti recoil ban waves
Giving fair warning a couple days ago via the Rust twitter, Facepunch announced they would start banning for anti recoil scripts. Sure enough, we’ve seen a slew of new bans hit @RustHackReport over the last several days, including numerous accounts with thousands of hours. Good riddance!
Bed repair and pickup
Alistair has completed some tweaks to beds. Not only can they now be repaired, beds can be picked up by players if the player has building privilege and a hammer equipped.
Skin download enhancements
Andre is working on some improvements to workshop skin loading, downloads, and warnings. First, he’s added a timeout so if skins fail to load from the workshop, it’ll just skip them. He’s also added some logs when skins fail to download, so the developers can track down problem items.
Pal continues his work on the scientist NPC’s this week. Along with some miscellaneous fixes and touch up for AI behavior, he’s made it so scientists now react to gunshots. Keep in mind, scientists are still turned off by default, so unless the server you’re playing happened to turn them on, you’re not going to be running into any boys in blue yet.
That said, they may be ready for prime time come the next forced wipe on March 1st. Stay tuned as we get closer for more.
