2:04pm EST - Note: These updates updates are not yet live on servers. The last client update was yesterday afternoon.
12:50pm EST - After the huge client update yesterday, the team is hard at work, knocking things off the list left and right. Over 30 commits already today... nice! The main focus appears to be optimization. We're also seeing a lot of updates to models and textures (I’m looking at you stone hatchet). Here’s some highlights...
Menu background scenes
Garry is coding up a storm today. His commit messages are a little pretty code-centric but here’s the gist of it: He’s created a bundle for each map, created the first tier of bundle (tier0), loaded bundles and their prefabs, deleted the old menu scene, added a new menu scene, loaded the menu map from the map bundles. That makes total sense to you right? Me too. Basically, it looks like he’s iterating on the menu background system so it’s easier to add more scenes. Come to think of it, the menu scene was different after yesterdays update...
Last weeks devblog said there would be a lot of focus on performance this week, and we are seeing it. A lot of people noticed FPS improvements after yesterdays update. Looks like we're in store for some more increases. There have been several code pushes dealing with compression of textures and optimizations to shaders and trees and such.
Yesterday’s update introduce a new model to the stone hatchet. None of the stats shifted; the change was purely cosmetic. If you craft one you'll immediately notice the texture is missing and, if you play in 3rd person, you'll also notice there is no world model. Thankfully, the team is adding all that in today so expect your stone hatchet to be looking less like a piece of wax and more like a hatchet in no time.
3rd person shitgun
Goose pushed some 3rd person shitgun animations. Currently, the shotgun doesn't show up at all in third person. This gets us one step closer being more of a shotgun and less of a shitgun… man, that came out harsh, I actually really like the shotgun and who shoots in 3rd person mode anyway?
