Attack Helicopter is on staging!

Just added to staging, the initial version of the Attack Helicopter is live! Here are some down and dirty details. Keep in mind, it’s just been added, so everything is subject to change.

  • It seats 2 people (a pilot and a gunner)

  • It’s available for purchase at Air Wolf for 2250 scrap

  • You can load and fire all types of rockets

  • You can also add any gun just like a Turret

  • It is very fast and nimble

  • Health is 850hp, runs on low grade

  • Gunner seat with a lower quality greenish view where they can aim, zoom, and shoot

  • Small light that can be turned on to illuminate the ground (L)

  • There are also some new base defenses planned to counter this (homing missiles)

Hotfixes

As is common after an update, some hotfixes were released earlier this week. Here is a summary of what was done:

  • Emoji Skin tone removal due to increased derogatory and racial content in chat

  • Industrial lights material fix

  • Sunglasses material fix

  • RHIB LOD fix

  • Fixed emoji not working if the players username has a '<' symbol in it

  • Fixed player being killed when mounting the Missile Silo computer station.

Boat drift

Initial work over on the ‘boats at world edge’ branch is showing a new feature which will make boats gradually float towards the shore when left alone. Still on a separate branch, no word on specific speeds or details - but it’d be nice to have abandoned boats showing up on the shore in the near future!

Backpacks

A lot of work is happening over on the hackweek branch ‘backpack’. As the name would imply, it looks like the first iterations of a player held backpack are in the works. With the test backpack adding an extra 24 slots, it looks like players will soon be able to haul around much more than the standard inventory size. Keep in mind as with all hack week projects, this may not actually make it into the game. Still on a separate branch, no visuals yet, but it does look like there will be a couple colors if and when these come out.

Weapon racks near completion

Work is being finalized on what may be the next DLC to release: Weapon Racks. With 4 on the way (3 wall mounted, 1 floor deployed) these racks will let players easily grab and go with weapons -- along with making their base look much cooler! This week they did a pass on crafting, icons, HP, protection stats, descriptions, names, and various other things needed prior to these puppies going prime time. Still no word on release, but we’ll post more details as they get closer to launch.

Flyby

Some updates to the end of wipe flyby event, or on the way. Specifically a new model for the F15E Strike Eagle fighter jet has been added. No visuals yet as it is still on a separate branch, but end of wipes might get even more spicy in the near future!

Tutorial Island

First seen the other week, the tutorial island branch is getting more love. No word on exactly what this is quite yet, but it looks like it might be a future friendly place for people to get the hang of the game. We’ll keep you posted as more comes to light.

Other stuff

  • More work on a new skin viewer (hack week project)
