QoL and other progress

4/26 @ 11pm EST - A patch was released which disables the Easter event. Due to performance concerns, we are running the patch and ending Easter a bit early.

12:00am EST - Easter continues in Rust as the team at Facepunch prepares for the update and forced wipe next week. In development, we’re seeing work on some long term projects along with some miscellaneous fixes and improvements.

Our update preview stream goes live at 3pm EST. Stay tuned to @Rustafied for news throughout the day.

Quality of life

Helk appears to be working on some miscellaneous quality of life things. Here’s a summary of what we’re seeing so far:

  • Faster right click looting (taking things from loot is now only about 1 second)

  • External wall and gate crafting time reduced

  • Recoil reduction for the M39

  • First person tracers are smaller when zoomed in

Sewer and tunnel lighting

Petur continues his work on revamping the lighting and improving monuments overall. With a focus on caves and tunnels this week, he’s not only making things more pleasing on the eye, but also easier to navigate.

In the example below which Petur sent me from his editor, we can see a new topside with floodlight and red lights to make it easier to locate. He also mentioned some small quality of life improvements such as not having to jump to get off the spiral staircase.

Barring something unexpected coming up, he told me we can expect to see these changes and more in the update next week.

Giant Excavator monument

Vincent and Damian continue their efforts on the newest monument in Rust, the Giant Excavator. Vincent was kind enough to send me some new teaser shots of the progress. As you can see, this stands to be a very sizable and intricate monument.

Given its scale, the Giant Excavator monument is expected to go live in the June update. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to that date.

Unity update

Andre and team are still working on updating to the latest version of Unity. As of this week, it appears some glitches have been resolved on the main menu UI along with some performance improvements to the inventory menu.

No word on if the May 2nd update will include this new version of Unity or not. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the update next week.

Other stuff

  • Some tweaks to the Easter event (doesn’t look like anything significant)
