Fixes, candle hat progress, and unsuck Hapis merged.

9:16pm EST - The unsucked Hapis Island level is live on the development debug branch. I'm starting a stream in a bit to explore the new rad towns and test out the node spawns. If you want to join in, follow these instructions to opt your client into the development branch (make sure you select development debug). Here's some screens:

3:28pm EST - Day two of Rust development for the week and the name of the game is bug fixes. While Garry and Helk are banging those out, Andre has just merged Petur’s unsuck Hapis branch to main. As always, we won’t see these changes live on all servers till the update hits on Thursday. Before we get into the fixes, let’s look at how our waxy new headpeice is coming along...

Candle hat progress

Love it or hate it, the first version of the candle was added yesterday to the development branch. Today, in preparation for the update, Garry has put on the finishing touches. Along with adding the inventory icon, the candle now has a flame when ignited. See more details about crafting and availability in my post yesterday.

Here are some new pictures:

Crafting improvements

Losing items and resources while crafting has been a headache for some time now. Thankfully, Gary has implemented several fixes which should prevent this from happening as much. Along with canceling crafting (and refunding resources) if you get disconnected or killed, you can also now cancel crafting that is already in progress. Awesome.

Dropped items not so slippery

Garry upped the friction a little bit for dropped items so they no longer slide as easily on the ground. Good, having a dropped sack slide all the way down a hill has been frustrating.

Weapons at feet

Since the update last week, you may have noticed players weapons sometimes appear to be held by their feet. Garry fixed this so weapons should all be held in the proper position now.

Voice fixes

Over the past few weeks, we noticed sometimes the voice chat can stop working, especially in large groups of people. Garry has debugged some errors in the P2P voice functionality, reducing the amount of failures.

Unsuck Hapis merged to main

The unsuck Hapis branch has just been merged into main. That means once the build is complete, we will be able to check out the updates to this custom level on the development branch. As you may recall, this body of work not only fixes node spawns, it also introduces 6 rad towns to the mix! I'll bring you the lowdown on what's new as soon as I have it.

Headshot noise making a comeback

While I was streaming last night, the headshot noise of Legacy came up in conversation. The consensus was clear, that sound kicked ass and should definitely make a comeback. So, I asked Helk about it and he said he would add it back in (no timeline yet though). Nice!

Streamin on

Pending it is functional, I will be testing out the freshly unsucked Hapis map later tonight. Tune in on the Rustafied twitch to watch live and ask questions. The show starts around 9pm EST.
