Papa’s got a brand new (sand)bag

10/28 @ 1:30pm EST - Just one more day till the update! No full update article from me today, instead I’m working on my update summary post which will go live late tonight. Speaking of tonight…

Purge Night!

Given our main server is wiping tomorrow with the update, we’re going to try out a server-wide event tonight starting at 9pm EST. We’ll be using the giveall command to provide all players in the server with weapons along with calling in a couple extra airdrops and helicopters. The goal is to liven things up and encourage some massive PvP.

I’ll be running around with a few of our moderators, streaming our antics for a couple hours starting at 9pm EST. Follow Rustafied on twitch to know exactly when we go live.

Note: This is a trial event and might totally break down. If it works, however, it may become a weekly occurrence.

10/27 @ 5:26pm EST - With just two days to go before the big update, we’re seeing more features and fixes. Reminder: This update will not force a map wipe for the game, expect that next Thursday (Nov. 5th). Let’s get into it...

Barricade changes

In an attempt to compete with exterior walls, Vince has made some significant changes to the stone, sandbag and concrete barricades. Rather than taking a couple minutes, they now craft in 10 to 30 seconds. They are also easier to place on terrain and can be stacked in your inventory (up to 10 per stack). In addition, their health has increased and costs have been tweaked. Here’s a summary of the new stats:

Stone barricade

Craft time:
10 seconds (was 200)

Cost:
100 stones (same)

Health:
100 (same)

Sandbag barricade

Craft time:
20 seconds (was 120)

Cost:
100 stones (was 150)

Health:
200 (was 100)

Concrete barricade

Craft time:
30 seconds (was 200)

Cost:
300 stones (was 200)

Health:
500 (was 200)

New sandbag barricade

Topping the changes to barricades, the sandbag barricade now provides much more cover. Along with being made more common in the loot tables, the sandbag barricade now offers 1.5 meters of protection, making it much more viable in combat. Here is a comparison between the current sandbag and the new one:

Auto turret rotation

In preparation for their debut Thursday, Helk has made some tweaks and changes to auto turrets. He’s fixed a couple exploits and added a rotation mechanism, which rotates the turret about 90 degrees clockwise each time you press it.

Canceling craft breaks items

To prevent a crafting exploit - which we saw when stone spears first came out - Helk has made it so that cancelling a craft breaks any items before returning them. Only affecting the turret, this prevents people from crafting with a broken AK, canceling, and getting a brand new AK back.

Other fixes

Helk has done a couple other miscellaneous fixes:

  • Attempting to repair unrepairable items no longer kicks you from the game
  • Fixed beartraps always looking unarmed
  • Fixed pumpjack disconnect error upon repairing
