Weekend update

Mac players are experiencing bad trips this weekend.

5:25pm EST - Happy Saturday everyone! If you haven’t already seen it, Garry posted this weeks devblog earlier today. Yesterday morning, we saw a client and server update. I summarized a bunch of things in yesterday's post, however, some additional things have come to light in the past 24 hours.

Mass drops

Many servers (official, community and modded) are experiencing issues with mass drops. The server starts kicking people and lagging out, making it impossible to join again. Restarting the server normally allows people to join again, however, issues are sometimes showing up after one of these events.

Invisible walls

Although they seem a lot less common, instances of invisible walls are still occurring. Today, after a mass drop and restart, many bases were missing walls and foundations. I’m not positive if this was directly a result of the restart or just exacerbated by high server load. Either way, one thing is for sure: invisible building parts are still an issue.

Broken locks

We can’t seem to catch a break with these fucking locks. After the mass drop earlier today, anyone could open any door, regardless of if it was in the locked state. This doesn’t appear to happen on every restart, however, I’ve seen several reports of this happening in other servers so it appears to be a widespread problem.

What this all means

Wipes. I know most people fucking hate them, however, it continues to be the only solution to many of these issues impacting gameplay. After the mass drop today, our server fps went from 60 to 5, locks stopped working and half the bases were invisible. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen on every restart. That being said, when it does happen, I won’t hesitate to wipe. As always, smooth gameplay is the priority.

Wall strength

This isn’t a new issue with yesterday's update, however, I’ve seen a lot of questions so I figured I’d mention it: It is very hard to break walls down at the moment, regardless of tool used or amount of people. The health regeneration rate on walls is so high, it can be almost impossible to break down even wood walls. Sometimes, with a group of 3 or more, you will start seeing that health bar fall, allowing you to take down a wall in a couple minutes. Most of the time, however, you will just stand there, whacking away, not making a dent in the overall health.
