Lock fixes, rad town loot, logs and animations

7:20pm EST - Garry tweeted this pic before. Sweet, rad towns may be closer than I thought!

2:35pm EST - Welcome to a new week of Rust development! The team is off to a good start. No update yet today, it is still being tested on the dev branch. Providing there’s no major fuck ups, we should see a launch to main soon. Let's get into it...

Disappearing lock fixes

There have been some issues with the locks lately. Mainly, locks are sometimes disappearing for players. Although the lock still functions (stays locked, owner can open it), other players are unable to input the code. Garry has tracked this one down and a fix is on the development branch now.

Rad town loot

Garry is also doing some more work on the radtown branch. With a focus on loot boxes, he’s added some core functionality. Loot can now be saved and regenerated. Also, boxes can be destroyed and the contents are spilled when they are. He’s also worked on the respawn of loot boxes. My sense is there is still a long way to go on this branch, but man, it’ll be awesome when we finally have rad towns with loot!

Server logs

There’s been some tweaks to the server logs. Specifically, the logs will now be placed in the server identity folder (as opposed to the root rust_dedicated folder). This not only provides better organization, but gives server owners the ability to give admins access to the log folder without providing access to the entire rust directory. Proper endlines have also been added so that the files no longer look like one very long run on sentence.

NRE Fixes

There have been a ton of commits for NRE fixes. NRE stands for NullReferenceException and basically refers to an error in the code which is trying to reference an object which isn’t initialized. All you need to know is this: these fixes are making the game more stable, and that is good.

Unity 5 beta 19

We’re on to a new version of the Unity 5 beta. You can check out the release notes for that here.

Animal animations

Minh is working on the tired and angry animations for bears and boars. I’m loving seeing these animals behave and move differently.

Stone textures

Vincent has been doing some more work on the stone textures. They are really coming along nicely and should be in the game by the end of the week.
