1:48pm EST - Now that performance has stabilized greatly, we’ve got some exciting stuff on the horizon. The team is cranking out new functionality and rad towns are right around the corner! Before we get into that, there was a small client / server update earlier today...
The small update earlier today didn’t shift that much in gameplay but did introduce some changes from a server standpoint:
- EAC has been updated and should no longer be dropping people randomly
- The server logs are now in the server identity folder as opposed to the root rust_dedicated folder
- Server logs now have proper line breaks
- Server console has some shifts in colors (chat isn't a bright teal anymore)
- People using admin tools like Rusty are a little in the dark for the time being as chat messages are not showing up. This should be fixed on the next update.
Rad towns are all the buzz this week. Anticipation is even higher after Garry tweeted the above teaser pic yesterday. The team are cranking away on this radtown branch and it is really coming along! I spoke with Garry briefly about it and he is shooting to get this merged into the development branch by this time tomorrow! Expect a full exclusive on rad towns to follow shortly after.
Another cool thing happening in the radtown branch is airdrops. For a while, these noisy planes have been flying over head, dropping a loot crate you can’t open in the middle of the map. This will all change once the radtown branch is live. The airdrop loot crate is now hooked into the new looting system and where planes drop the loot on the map has been randomized.
Speaking of maps, an awesome plugin for oxide came out the other day which generates a map based on the seed you’re on. I spawned up a test server to generate a map of the current seed on our official server then manually added the monuments (the plugin doesn’t do that yet). Also note, there is no snow represented on the map. I will be posting maps of each one of our seeds going forward on the forums.
Maurino is working on a branch entitled newitems1. The new AK-47 model has been implemented along with some other tweaks. Specifically, bullets are slightly more visible and the Thompson has been nerfed a bit (less damage dealt, more recoil). I’ll keep my eyes peeled for this branch merging into master.
Andre is doing a bunch of work around reflections and the overall look of the environment. Mac users should be seeing reflections again and the brightness of the sun and moon have been tweaked.
Alex took a first pass on the sounds for this little guy. Also, we noticed has been modified a bit. If you remember, the bone knife used to be the best tool to harvest. Then, it was nerfed and wouldn’t harvest anything. Now, some of the harvest ability has returned (although the stone hatchet is still a much better option it appears). Overall, it still doesn’t seem like this is a very viable weapon or tool.
Sawn off shotgun
A new screen of the sawn off shotgun has appeared in trello today. It’s coming along!
